Sr. Captain Paul Urbano

Captain Paul Urbano is a 31-year fire service veteran. He’s been a member of the Anchorage Fire Department for 22 years and currently serves as the senior fire captain at downtown Fire Station #1. He enthusiastically enjoys sharing his experiences with others yet remains passionate about being a continual student of the fire service.

The 2017 Alaska Fire Conference will be held in Sitka, Alaska the week of

September 25 - 30.

The Alaska Fire Conference is Co-sponsored by the Alaska Fire Chiefs and Alaska State Firefighters Associations in cooperation with the Office of the State Fire Marshal, Bureau of Fire Accreditation, Standards, and Training.

2017 Alaska Fire Conference

Bud started his fire service career in 1957, with the California Division of Forestry. In his extensive fire service career, he has worked in a wide range of positions, from entry level wildland firefighter to smokejumper, and from fire prevention technician to Chief of Fire Protection of the Alaskan Air Command with the U.S. Air Force. Once Bud retired from federal service in 1990, his fire service career kept going and found him working seasonally with the State of Alaska Division of Forestry, continuing his work at the University of Alaska Fairbanks as an instructor and professor, working as a fire protection consultant, and developing and presenting training programs for the VPSOs at the Alaska State Public Safety Academy. Bud also delivered the Basic Firefighter Course to rural Alaska communities. He’s been involved with the National Fire Prevention/ Education Teams since 1996 as team training cadre member and team leader, and was an adjunct member of Alaska Type I National Incident Management Team 1987 to 2007.
